Welcome to level 3 of the BMF Certificate in Sustainability.   Please note that you have to complete level 1 and 2, before moving on to this module.  Successful completion of this course will contribute a third of the points required to achieve your certificate. There are 5 e-learning modules and a weblink for you to follow where you can access materials and support.


  1. Carbon Reduction Offsetting & Net Zero (e-learning).  This first e-learning section will enable you to recognise, understand and equip you with the tools to reduce carbon emissions.
  2. Delivering Energy Efficient & Carbon Efficient Buildings (e-learning). This module is hosted by Liz Reason and looks at the key issues relating to energy, carbon and building
  3. Carbon Footprinting & Measurement (e-learning).  This section tells learners how to calculate carbon footprinting and measure the carbon in your organisation.
  4. Embedding Sustainable Procurement (e-learning). Our fourth section will help you identify what is sustainable procurement and how it can work for your business.
  5. Performance Gap (e-learning).  This final e-learning section introduces the idea of the performance gap, help you identify what might be creating it and how you can contribute to closing it.

Welcome to level 2 of the BMF Certificate in Sustainability.   Please note that you have to complete level 1, before moving on to this module.  Successful completion of this course will contribute a third of the points required to achieve your certificate and will unlock Level 3. There are 2 short videos and 6 e-learning modules: 

  1. Introduction to Climate Change and Carbon (e-learning module) – In this first section we look at what climate change is, you impact on climate change and what you can do about it.
  2. Energy Management Efficiency (Video) – A short fun video looking at ways you can save energy.
  3. Reduce Carbon, Reduce Costs (e-learning module) - This section looks at why carbon is an issue and the benefits to you business for cutting carbon.
  4. Green Infrastructure (e-learning module) The fourth section explains what Green Infrastructure is and how to implement it.
  5. Sustainability at Work (video)  - This video looks at what you can to improve and support sustainability at work.
  6. Sustainable Timber & Chain of Custody (e-learning) - This section focuses on why sustainability for timber is important and the associated certification schemes.
  7. Sustainable Use & Management of Plastics (e-learning module) - This section describes the benefits to businesses who reduce the demand for plastics and the management of plastic waste
  8. Introduction to Biodiversity (e-learning) - This final section helps us understand what Biodiversity is and why it's important


Welcome to level 1 of the BMF Certificate in Sustainability. Successful completion of this course will contribute a third of the points required to achieve your certificate and will unlock Level 2.  When you've completed Level 2, you are able to complete the third certificate course too.  In this level, there are 3 short videos and 5 e-learning modules: 


  1. Introduction to Sustainable Construction (e-learning module) – Section One introduces the principles of sustainability, sustainable development and sustainable construction.  
  2. Climate Change: An Introduction (Video) – where Ian Nicholson of Responsible Solutions and Peter Johnson of Kier Group talk about the significance of human induced climate change on the construction industry. 
  3. Introduction to Sustainable Homes (e-learning module) - In Section Three we discuss the 10 key sustainability issues facing the home building sector, and how best to tackle them in a way that's good for the environment and your business. 
  4. An Introduction to Climate Change & Carbon Accounting (Video) A short video explaining the background to climate change, why it is a serious issue we must all act on, and how you can start going about that – explaining so key jargon along the way. 
  5. Introduction to Waste (e-learning module)  - In this section we provide an overview of waste diversion benefits and principles, as well as legislation concerning waste disposal.  
  6. What is Biodiversity? (Video) - A brilliant short film from the Natural History Museum which provides a great introduction to what biodiversity is and why it is important 
  7. Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) (e-learning module) - This section explains what SuDS are, how they are executed, and what legal and planning requirements you need to know about.
